Turkey hunter shot in Somerset identified as Stillwater man
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department was investigating an apparent turkey hunting accident Tuesday morning in the town of Somerset.
Jerry Cusick, 53, Stillwater, a Washington County, Minn., Sheriff's Commander, was shot by another hunter when he was scouting a turkey hunting area near the 1900 block of 80th Street, the sheriff said.
Cusick was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The sheriff said the call came in to deputies at 7:24 a.m. April 30.
Cusick, a 28-year veteran officer, was listed in good condition. Sheriff Bill Hutton said he suffered a shotgun wound but his injuries did not appear life threatening.
Hutton said Cusick did not have a gun with him because he was just walking through the area in preparation for a future hunt.
