Uline to add 500 jobs, double corporate headquarters in Pleasant Prairie
KENOSHA -- Uline officials were joined by Gov. Scott Walker late Tuesday morning as they announced that they plan to double the size of their corporate headquarters in Pleasant Prairie and add hundreds of jobs.
Uline opened its new 200-acre corporate campus just west of Interstate 94 and south of Highway 165 in Pleasant Prairie during the summer of 2010. The expansion will add a second 1 million-square-foot warehouse and a second corporate office building of 200,000 square feet at the complex.
The headquarters building, the "Lodge", houses all corporate functions in one location and a million-plus square foot, state-of-the-art warehouse is dedicated to supplying the firm's regional distribution centers like the Minneapolis Center that opened in Hudson last summer.
Walker joined Uline founders, Dick and Elizabeth Uihlein, to announce the expansion of their shipping supply distribution business.
“This project is another example of how Uline—a successful, growing company—is invested in Wisconsin and our workforce,” Walker said. “We will continue our work to improve the business climate and develop our workforce, to encourage more job creators to expand and grow here as Uline continues to do.”
Liz and Dick Uihlein started the company in their basement in 1980. In the summer of 2010, they moved the corporate headquarters from Waukegan, Ill. a few miles north to the current 200-acre corporate campus in Pleasant Prairie. The existing $125 million campus includes a 200,000-square-foot office building and a one million square-foot, state of the art warehouse dedicated to supplying regional distribution centers.
The company expects the $100 million investment will create 500 new jobs. Uline did not seek or receive state funding for this expansion.
"We are lucky to have a State that supports the spirit of entrepreneurship that our family and company thrive on,” said Liz Uihlein. “Additionally, we have been able to find the talent to continue to grow our company. We recognize the State and County for establishing schools, like Carthage and Gateway, for educating the talent to fill the jobs of today."
In 2011, Uline announced plans for a $25 million relocation of its Eagan, Minn. distribution center, moving the operation across the border to Hudson. Construction of the 600,000-square-foot warehouse allowed the company to bring 150 jobs to Wisconsin.
Uline is a business-to-business distributor of shipping supplies, industrial materials, and packaging materials. The company offers quick delivery of its approximately 28,000 products through its catalog and website. Uline has more than 3,500 employees and ten distribution centers in North America.
