Undrafted Stocco gets try out with Packers
University of Wisconsin quarterback John Stocco will try out for the Green Bay Packers this weekend.
He's one of about two-dozen players invited to the team's rookie orientation camp Friday through Sunday.
Stocco, who graduates this spring, was hoping to get drafted last weekend, but it never happened. He said Arizona and St. Louis appeared to be interested in getting him Sunday night, but that didn't pan out either.
Stocco says he's excited about the Green Bay opportunity, and he plans to make the most of it. He went 29-7 in his three years as a starter in Madison.
Also, UW-La Crosse basketball standout Joe Werner will attend the Packer camp this weekend. He gave up on football while in high school at Chippewa Falls McDonell. Although he's a Division 3 All-American, his coach thought Werner's best chance of turning pro is at tight end in the NFL.
