United Way St. Croix Valley will kick off the 2008 fall fund-raising campaign with a volunteer event -- the Day of Caring -- from noon-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19.
Teams of volunteers -- individuals and staff from local companies -- will meet at rally points and then proceed to homes of seniors throughout St. Croix and Pierce counties to do small service projects such as raking leaves, washing first-floor windows and small painting jobs.
"United Way's motto, Live United, means engaging in your community. You can choose to give, advocate, volunteer -- just choose to make a positive difference," said United Way Executive Director John Coughlin. "As United Way initiatives like the Food Resource Center and Success By 6 grow, and relationships with funded nonprofit programs continue to evolve, we have witnessed how getting involved in a hands-on way is powerful."
This fall, United Way St. Croix Valley hopes to raise $1,175,000 for local non-profit programs and United Way initiatives. The campaign runs Sept. 15-Nov. 19 and will fund United Way initiatives and six dozen agency programs supporting local communities.
Seniors in St. Croix and Pierce counties who would like volunteers to help at their home during the Day of Caring, or individuals who would like to volunteer their time to help others, should call United Way at (715) 377-0203, ext. 103, or visit www.unitedwaystcroix.org.
