Update: Body found in Apple River near Somerset
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

St. Croix County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a body floating in the Apple River near the Apple River Campground, and just downstream from Village Park in Somerset on Sunday.

The body of Charles R. Geiger, 47, of Somerset, was discovered by a group of kayakers at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to St. Croix County Chief Deputy Scott Knudson.

He was fully clothed when found, but didn’t appear to have been fishing, and there weren’t any outward signs of trauma, Knudson said.

An autopsy was performed Monday by the Ramsey County (Minn.) Medical Examiner, and drowning was reported as the preliminary cause of death. Toxicology reports are pending, and no foul play is suspected, according to a St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Somerset Police Department, Somerset Fire/Rescue and the St. Croix County Medical Examiner, according to a news release.

The death remains under investigation.
