UPDATE: Fatal accident snarls traffic Thursday night
One driver died and three others suffered injuries late Thursday in a three-vehicle collision on the northeast side of St. Croix County.
The crash, involving two autos and a large delivery truck, was reported shortly after 5 p.m. in the vacinity of Hwy. 63/64 and CTH O in the Town of Cylon.
According to the St. Croix County Sheriff's office, Thomas Victor Huju, 22, Minneapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
According to witnesses at the scene, Huju's car crossed the center line was it traveled westbound on Highway63/64. It struck a truck, driven by Michael Hutton, 49, Chippewa Falls, which was headed westbound. Radio traffic from the scene indicated the crash involved a straight-truck owned by WestCAP Services, Glenwood City.
Following the truck was a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Douglas L. Garner, 56, Clayton. Garner's vehicle struck Huju's car after the initial collision with the truck.
Hutton, Garner and a passenger in the truck, Ronald P. Score, 51, Boyceville, were transported to Westfields Hospital in New Richmond with minor injuries. All drivers and occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to the sheriff's report.
Assisting at the scene was the Wisconsin State Patrol, New Richmond EMS and Rescue, Deer Park Fire Department and Deer Park First Responders.
A portion of Highway 63/64 was closed to traffic for about three hours while emergency crews worked at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. This is the second fatality of 2011 in St. Croix County.
