UW-Eau Claire women take early lead at NCAA Division 3 tournament
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is in first place after the opening round of the NCAA Division 3 women's golf finals in Port St. Lucie Florida.
The Blugolds shot a combined 24 over-par 312 Wednesday, six strokes ahead of second-place St. Lawrence.
UW-Stevens Point is tied for fifth at 34 over.
Torie Ives of Eau Claire is tied for the lead among the individuals. She and Stephanie Mingos of Rhodes College both shot even-par 72s Wednesday.
Susan Martin of Methodist is one stroke back. Jessica Urban of Stevens Point is tied for fourth. Emily Swift of Eau Claire is tied for sixth.
On the men's side, UW-Stout is 10th and Milwaukee Engineering is 23rd after the first round at Port St. Lucie.
Stout shot a combined eight-over-par 296 Wednesday, 17 strokes behind first-place Methodist.
Milwaukee Engineering shot a 307. Derek Holmes of Stout is the state's top individual after Round 1. He's tied for 12th at one-under-71.
