UW-Stout hires winning coach for new women's golf program
University of Wisconsin-Stout has hired a winning coach to start up its women's golf team this fall.
Kris Schoonover will lead the new Blue Devil squad and she'll be an instructor in the school's new Golf Enterprise Management major.
Schoonover started a women's golf team from scratch in 1996 at UW Oshkosh. She went to be a two-time WIAC and NCAA regional coach of the year and was a co-national coach of the year three years ago in Division III.
Schoonover has been out of coaching since 2003, but she looks forward to developing the new program at Stout.
She's also high on the Golf Enterprise Management major, saying it will train people about the business of golf.
Stout created the new women's team and brought back the men's squad after a 15-year hiatus to help recruit students for the new major.
A men's coach is expected to come on board in the next few weeks.
