The dugouts remained vacant and snow covered at the baseball field at Grandview Park last Friday, April 12, as the Raider baseball team waits to play its first game of the season. The Raiders have had eight games either cancelled or postponed by the weather so far this year.

In a perfect world, the Raider baseball team would have eight games under its belt by this point of the season, Hudson's girls' soccer would be seven games into its schedule, and the boys' golf team would have played two 18-hole invitationals and two nine-hole conference mini-meets by now.

But as anyone itching to put on a pair of shorts and sandals knows, this spring has been far from perfect.

With any luck, the Raider girls' soccer team was scheduled to finally open its season this past Tuesday, April 16, at Rice Lake. The game was originally scheduled as a home game for Hudson but was moved to Rice Lake to take advantage of the artificial turf at Pug Lund Field. The May 9 game against the Warriors will now be played in Hudson at 7 p.m. at the middle school field.

The rest of the Raider teams are at the mercy of Mother Nature.

Hudson's track and field teams got off to a good start during the indoor portion of the season but had their annual True Team Invitational planned for last Friday, April 12, canceled by the weather. This Friday's Border Battle Invitational, originally scheduled for outdoors at River Falls High School, has been moved inside to the UW-River Falls Knowles Fieldhouse.

Other Raider teams have already had to cancel or postpone events through the end of this week. The girls' soccer team's game at Eau Claire Memorial Thursday has been rescheduled for May 18 in Eau Claire, and Thursday's boys' golf match at Clifton Hollow has been postponed with no make-up date set as of April 16. The Raider baseball team's game scheduled for Friday, April 19, will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Grandview Park Friday, May 10.

The only other baseball games rescheduled so far include a home game against Simley April 25, an away game at Mahtomedi May 11, and a home game against New Richmond May 18. The game against the Tigers will be played at 3 p.m. at Grandview Park following the Raiders' noon game against Red Wing.

The Hudson Golf Invitational, originally scheduled for April 8, will now be played Monday, April 29, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Troy Burne, while the boys' tennis team will make up home matches Monday, April 29, against Chippewa Falls and Monday, May 6, against Baldwin-Woodville. The Woodbury Invitational, originally scheduled for April 6, will now take place Saturday, April 27.

Weather permitting, the Raider tennis team will open Big Rivers Conference play this Thursday, April 18, at Eau Claire North and take part in the Wausau West Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 19-20.
