"Spectacular."

That's the word that best describes Friday night's Willow River Elementary Music and Art show according to event coordinators Genie Castro and Jane Richards.

Attendance was at an all time high at the fifth annual event. Along with original art work by students and local professional artists, the evening included entertainment put together by Lindsey Andress, school music specialist, with assistance from parent Sernia Bentley. The music performed by students, former students, parents and teachers was also described as spectacular by Castro and Richards who have teamed to coordinate the event for the past five years.

The library was transformed into an art gallery and items were bid on through a silent auction that generated close to $4000 of sales. Community artists who participated donated 25percent of their sales to the Willow River Parents Group. All the money from the sale of student classroom projects was donated to the school parent group.

Every student from Willow River Elementary was represented in the show with a project they made in their art class with art specialist Ashley LaVick.

Said Richards, "I think this is a great event to celebrate the arts in our community!"
