Wisconsin teen wins texting title again
For the second year in a row, a teenager from Rhinelander has been named America's fastest texter.
Austin Wierschke, 17, won the 6th annual LG National Texting Competition yesterday in New York's Times Square. Eleven contestants from throughout the country took a series of speed, accuracy, and dexterity tests using an LG Optimus Zip phone with a QWERTY keyboard.
Wierschke won another $50,000, which he says will go to his college fund, just like the $50,000 he won in the same contest a year ago.
He said he sent almost 500 texts a day to his friends to get ready for the event. Another of the competitors, Kelly Barracato, said she's not surprised that Wierschke won again. As she put it, "His thumbs were flying."
