Woodbury rib company relocating to Hudson
Greater American Ribs of Woodbury, Minn., got an OK from members of Hudson's Plan Commission to proceed with plans to build a 15,300-square-foot facility in St. Croix Business Park.
The Plan Commission unanimously approved concept development plans for the facility on Nov. 10.
According to Community Development Director Dennis Darnold, Greater American Ribs cooks and packages ribs served in restaurants and sold in grocery stores.
Darnold said it is his understanding that the company will relocate from a smaller facility not far from Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury should it be allowed to build in Hudson.
The company still needs city approval of its final plans.
The facility would be built on a new street running east from Willis Miller Drive between the General Motors parts distribution center and Hulcher Services Inc. Darnold said Greater American Ribs won't be able to begin construction until after the first of the year, at the earliest, provided that it receives final approval of its plan.
Darnold said that he was told the company expects to employ up to 80 people at the Hudson facility. Most are believed to be already employed at the Woodbury facility.
