Wurm returns to state
Hudson sophomore Cassie Wurm carded an 87 on the first day of the WIAA State Girls Golf Championships Monday at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison and entered Tuesday's round tied for 30th place.
Frigid temperatures both days pushed the start time back three hours with a shotgun start. It was the first shotgun start in the 37-year history of the girls' state golf tournament.
Wurm earned her second straight trip to state by shooting 81 at Thursday's sectional tournament at Mill Run Golf Course in Eau Claire. Last year as a freshman she finished tied for 25th with a two-day total of 167.
Wurm earned her spot at state as an individual qualifier as the Raiders finished fourth in the sectional team standings with a total of 357. Eau Claire Memorial, with 351, and Onalaska, with 353, took the top two spots to advance as teams. Holmen finished third with 354.
In addition to Wurm's 81 Thursday, Ellie Anderson finished with 84, Molly Fassbinder 85 and Danni Krinke 107 to account for the Raiders' team total. Leisha Cory finished with 115.
