Wurm ties for 38th at state golf tournament

Raider sophomore Cassie Wurm carded a two-day total of 178 to finish in a tie for 38th place at the WIAA Girls State Golf Championships last Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.

Wurm was tied for 30th after the first day with a score of 87. She finished with a 91 Tuesday.

Wurm qualified for her second straight trip to the state tournament by shooting an 81 at the Eau Claire North Sectional Oct. 7 at Mill Run. She finished tied for 25th place as a freshman in 2008.

This year's tournament was delayed three hours both days due to cold weather and utilized a shotgun start. It is the first time in the history of the girls' state golf tournament a shotgun start was used.

Emily Joers of Waukesha South/North/West won the 2009 girls' golf championship with a two day total of 150.
