Teaching Sunday school classes to preschoolers — creating lessons and projects for the youngsters — led to Louise Hermansen knowing she wanted to become a teacher while still in high school.

Hudson named a ‘Best Community for Music Education’

The Hudson School District has been named one of the nation’s “Best Communities for Music Education.” Hudson was named for its commitment to provide quality music education programs for its students.

The St. Croix Valley Music Educators’ Association held its annual Eighth Grade Honors Choir and Band Concert at UW-River Falls Saturday, April 26. Eighth-grade students from Hudson, New Richmond, Prescott, St. Croix Central and Baldwin-Woodville were selected based on teacher recommendations to participate in either honors group.

The Education Foundation of Hudson last week awarded grants totaling $20,494, mostly Star Grants and Star Initiative Grants for innovative projects and curriculum training.

HHS team looking for third global DI title

After working together for five years, the Hudson High School Destination Imagination team heading to the global finals in Knoxville, Tenn., is preparing for their last performance together.
Joan Thompson will retire in June after 23 years teaching in the Hudson School District. She developed the district’s adaptive physical education program and is finishing out her career as a learning disabilities teacher at Hudson High School.

Joan Thompson said she began thinking about retirement last year but it just didn’t feel right. This year it does.
After already taking two first-place finishes in global competition, this Hudson High School Destination Imagination team of seniors hopes there will be a third in the cards when they compete next month in Knoxville, Tenn. The Hudson School District orchestras will join with the St. Croix Symphony Orchestra for a concert at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, in the Hudson Prairie Elementary School gym.
