Caleb Hawley is spotted on 'Idol' commercial

Caleb Hawley, a 2003 Hudson High School graduate, has been spotted on at least one of the television commercials for the upcoming season of "American Idol" which premiers Jan. 19.

Entire websites are dedicated to the speculation as to who the finalists will be.

"I can't say much but I did try out during the New Jersey auditions," said Hawley, during a brief telephone interview from his New York residence Monday night. Beyond that, and the fact that he appears briefly about eight seconds into one of the commercials, is about all the young singer and songwriter would say.

Hawley, who is married to fellow HHS graduate Samantha O'Keefe, has tried out for the show "American Idol" before.

"The first time I tried out (over two years ago) I forgot the words to my first song," said Hawley. "So I knew I wasn't going to go anywhere."

Caleb and Samantha have lived in New York (Harlem presently) for four years.

"It is starting to feel like home," said Caleb, who graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2007.

Hawley had a busy year in 2010, touring to over 150 spots including a visit to Germany where his father is currently on sabbatical. He has three albums, a vigorous schedule of shows and numerous awards to his credit.

His parents are Vicki and Dale Hawley. Samantha's parents are Debbie and Patrick O'Keefe. All are from Hudson.

Agave Kitchen will be the gathering spot on Wednesday for friends and family to watch "American Idol." It will air on Fox TV at 7 p.m. Included will be footage from the auditions in New Jersey. While speculation is high on various websites that Hawley may appear, you will have to watch to find out.

The artist himself is not at liberty to say and, in fact, doesn't really know if they will show footage of him or if he will end up on the cutting room floor.

Hawley is returning to the Twin Cities for a show on Feb. 12 at the Aster Café in Minneapolis at 8 p.m. You may visit his website at to see the latest information on his rising career and his newest releases.
