Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience at The Phipps
HUDSON — The Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience, sponsored by Hudson Neighbors magazine, will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at The Phipps Center for the Arts.
Johnson is an Emmy-winning singer/songwriter who has sold nearly two million albums as part of the nationally known vocal group Tonic Sol-fa. He indelibly stamps vocal jazz and swing with a contemporary punch—pleasing both traditionalists and newcomers—emerging as an original voice in the continuing tradition of the American singer. Johnson has entertained with Jay Leno, been featured in Newsweek, and was seen across the country in the Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience's first PBS television special, "The Spirit of the Season."
The band fuses a big band spirit with an inventive edge. It is at once riskier than Bublé and more modern than Sinatra. The band consists of Aaron Moe, alto and soprano saxophone and clarinet; Ronny Loew, tenor saxophone; Jeff Carver, trumpet and flugelhorn; Dave Stamps, trombone; Theo Brown, piano; Jim Biersma, bass; and David Stanoch, percussion. Band members have toured with Aretha Franklin, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and New Kids on the Block.
