Family farm recalls shredded cheese

Bekkum Family Farms of Westby is recalling shredded cheese which could be contaminated with listeria. The cheese is labeled “Grumpy Goat Shreds” under the Nordic Creamery brand name.
It comes in eight-ounce packages and has a sell-by date of “10-MAR-12.” Distributors say the products were sold in Wisconsin, Minnesota and California.
Eating food contaminated with listeria can be fatal. The U.S. Center for Disease Control says listeria is a bacterium that causes infection and mostly affects older adults, pregnant women and adults with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of it can seem like a flu and include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.
