And officials in both states have come up with a plan to reduce the amount of phosphorus entering the basin by 20%. To reach the goal, Wisconsin water quality experts say phosphorus will need to be reduced by up to 40% from both direct and non-point sources like run-off.
Wisconsin's DNR is holding public meetings on the plan Jan. 31st in Hudson and Siren. People can submit written comments to the DNR until Feb. 10.
