About 100 Wisconsin landowners who've had problems with grey wolves will be invited to apply for state permits to kill those animals.
The state DNR will send out letters today to those who've had livestock killed by wolves. They can get permits to hunt the problem wolves starting Jan. 27, the first day that Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota can manage their wolf populations on their own.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removed wolves in those states from the federal endangered species' list in December. Also on Friday, Wisconsinites learned they can legally shoot wolves in self defense, and/or without permits if the animals are in the act of attacking personal property.
