Good Samaritans rescued a 90-year-old driver who plunged his car into the Des Plaines River Kenosha County Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Sheriff's deputies said Richard Weiss lost control on Highway 142, and his car landed in the river. Several men in the car behind Weiss came to his rescue.

Greg Drozdziak of suburban Chicago told WGTD Radio in Kenosha that he and another man jumped on the roof of Weiss's car, but they couldn't force a door open. So they used a hammer to break open a sunroof and pull him out through it.

The car almost submerged at the time. Deputies said Weiss was dazed but suffered only a few minor scrapes.
