A Minnesota man charged in the January stabbing death of Joel Marino, 31, in Madison could be headed back to Wisconsin this week.

Adam Peterson, 20, of rural Stillwater will not fight extradition to Dane County, to face a first-degree intentional homicide charge in the slaying of Marino.

Police said they started watching Peterson after he complained twice that his lap-top computer was stolen and his roommates called police to say he had issues.

Other reports said Peterson became so unstable his brother had him go to a psychiatric ward in mid-March.

Marino was killed in his home Jan. 28 in an apparent random act of violence.

It was one of three high-profile killings in or near downtown Madison over the past year and police said they’d find out if Peterson had a role in the other two.

Peterson’s father said there’s no way he could have been involved in the slayings of Kelly Nolan and Brittany Zimmermann because he was not in Madison at the time they were committed.

Peterson was arrested last week at his mother’s home near Stillwater.
