Uncommitted Doyle has plenty of cash for future run

Gov. Jim Doyle has just more than $1 million in his campaign fund, in case he runs for a third term in 2010.

Gov. Jim Doyle has just more than $1 million in his campaign fund, in case he runs for a third term in 2010.

According to reports filed Monday, the Democratic governor raised just more than $900,000 in the first half of the year

Still, he’s got more than $0.5 million less than at the same point four years ago when he was in the process of raising $10.5 million to help him win his second term.

If Barack Obama is elected president in November, Doyle might not be around.

There’s speculation that Doyle would be offered a federal job in an Obama administration, just like Tommy Thompson was when President Bush was first elected in 2000.

Doyle led the Obama’s winning primary campaign in the Badger State and he has campaigned for the Illinois senator elsewhere, too.

Doyle won’t announce until after November whether he’ll seek a third term.

If he leaves, Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton would move into the top spot and she’s got about $43,000 in her campaign fund.
