A Hayward man is accused of hiring somebody to burn down his bar and restaurant so he could get the insurance money.
A federal grand jury in Madison indicted Phillip Lanthrop, 38, Thursday on six counts, including arson and insurance fraud.
According to investigators, Lanthrop gave $5,000 and cocaine to an arsonist who then destroyed Player’s Sports Bar and Grill in a fire in August 2003.
Authorities said Lanthrop then defrauded his insurance company of more than $0.25 million.
