State has doled out over $7 million for renewable energy projects

Wisconsin businesses have received more than $7 million in state funds this year to turn things like waste into fuel.

Wisconsin businesses have received more than $7 million in state funds this year to turn things like waste into fuel.

Gov. Jim Doyle went to Wausau Tuesday to announce the latest renewable-energy grants from the state’s Energy Independence Fund.

American Science and Technology in Wausau is getting $150,000 to help convert wood wastes and switch grass into fuel and industrial chemicals.

Grand Meadow Energies near Stratford will get $265,000, to look for ways to make bio-diesel fuel from two things – algae, and a cheese making byproduct called permeate.
