A Jackson County man continues to be held without bond for allegedly killing his ex-wife, and letting hundreds of people search almost a week for her.

Douglas Sidie, 39, of Hatfield made his first court appearance Wednesday on charges of first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse and eight counts of obstructing officers.

He still needs an attorney, and Circuit Judge Thomas Lister is withdrawing

Court records said he represented Sidie as a private lawyer in a civil case six years ago.

Sidie is due back in court Tuesday. He was divorced from 27-year-old Alicia Sidie, but they were getting back together.

Authorities said they argued the night of Nov. 7. After Alicia walked out, the fight moved onto the sidewalk where Doug reportedly took out a .22-caliber revolver, shot her once in the eye and hid her body in the woods.

Last Saturday, after repeatedly denying Alicia’s whereabouts, Sidie was reportedly confronted with new evidence – and he led officers to where Alicia’s body, latex gloves, and purse were found.

The murder weapon was found in a nearby creek. Prosecutors do not list a motive for the killing.

Sidie is also charged with bail jumping, for violating a bond from a drunken driving case in May.

Relatives say they’ve told the couple’s 2-year-old twin boys that their mother is an angel and their father is in a time-out for now.
