A northwest Wisconsin woman who claims she accidentally stabbed her husband while doing the dishes is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.

Rachel Thompson, who turns 40 on Wednesday, is charged with a felony count of causing reckless injury.

She told authorities she stabbed Bruce Thompson, 53, at their home in Barron on Jan. 6, when he tried to grab her while she was washing dishes.

EMTs were called and they found that he had a stab wound to the back and a punctured lung.

Bruce Thompson first claimed his wife slipped and stabbed him by accident.

But officers said he later admitted making up the story so his wife wouldn’t get in trouble.

She faces a preliminary hearing Thursday, when a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to order a trial.
