In golf, Steve Stricker of Madison won the PGA’s Crowne Plaza Invitational, beating Tim Clark and Steve Marino on the second hole of a sudden death playoff.

Stricker began Sunday’s round in a three-way tie for second at the Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas.

He needed a chip-in birdie on the 17th hole, and a Clark bogey on the 18th to make the playoff at 17-under-par 263.

And then Stricker made a 4-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole to win his fifth career PGA title.

It also moved the Stricker, 42, into second place behind Zach Johnson in the Fed-Ex Cup season point standings.

Stricker is also the third Wisconsin player to win a PGA tournament this year.

Jerry Kelly of Madison won the Zurich Classic in New Orleans in late April, and Pewaukee native Mark Wilson won the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico on March first.

Wilson tied for 22nd this weekend at eight under 272.

Kelly and Appleton native J.P. Hayes missed the cut.
