Tyshawn Taylor’s high school coach, Bob Hurley, says he’s seeking Taylor’s release from his letter of intent and there are reports that some other incoming freshmen might do the same.
Hurley said he was showing disrespect to Marquette, but Taylor was only going to play for Crean.
Also, junior guard Jerel McNeal says he and teammate Dominic James will take some time and see what a new coach might bring – before deciding whether to leave for the NBA.
They have until April 27 to state their intentions.
Media reports said Indiana first offered its coaching job to Washington State coach Tony Bennett, but he turned it down, so they went after Crean.
Marquette officials said they never got a chance to give Crean an incentive to stay.
They said Crean had a buy-out clause in his contract, meaning the school will get at least some money back.
Bennett, meanwhile, is being mentioned as a possible replacement to Crean along with Marquette assistant Buzz Williams.
Marquette Athletic Director Steve Cottingham says he has a short list of candidates and he’ll be deliberate about choosing one.
