The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s interim hockey coach Matt Loen has been given the job permanently.

That’s after the Blugolds made it to the semi-finals of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association tournament, before falling to UW-Stout in overtime.

UW-Eau Claire finished 11-16-1 overall last season.

Loen played for the Blugolds from 1991-to-’95 before playing in the pros for eight years. He still ranks 10th on the Blugolds’ all-time scoring list with 120 points.

Loen has been back in Eau Claire since 2003 at the university and at Memorial High School as an assistant.
