Sports Illustrated.com says the Brewers have put in a waiver-claim on Arizona starter Doug Davis. General manager Doug Melvin said he was not allowed to comment on waiver claims.

But before last month’s trade deadline, he said the Diamondbacks wanted the equivalent of a second-round draft pick and it was apparent that Arizona was not looking for a deal.

The Internet report said the Brewers and D-Backs had 48 hours to work out a trade.

Arizona could also withdraw him from waivers – or let him go without compensation, which is not likely.

Davis, a former Brewer, is 7-10 this year with a 3.62 ERA.
