Rain helps corn and soybeans; crops still two weeks behind

Officials say last week’s rain did a world of good for Wisconsin’s corn, even though the crop is still about two weeks behind schedule.

Much of the state received anywhere from 0.7 of rain to about 1.25 inches.

And for the first time in a long time, parts of northwest Wisconsin have surplus moisture.

Only about 20 percent of the fields statewide are short of moisture.

As a result, about two-thirds of the Wisconsin corn and soybean crops are rated good to excellent.

Officials say the biggest concern now is that the frost holds off before everything is harvested.

Also, good to very good yields are being reported for wheat, and the oat harvest is bringing in above-average yields.
