The Minnesota Vikings have traded former Wisconsin defensive end Erasmus James to Washington, for a conditional seventh-round draft choice.

James had surgery on his left knee three times in the last two seasons and he failed a physical last week.

James, 25, was Minnesota’s first-round draft choice in 2005, as the 18th overall pick. But he was limited to just eight games in 2006-07 and he only had five sacks in his three years with the Vikes.
