Steve Stricker of Madison quietly had a Top 10 finish at the British Open.
While Greg Norman dominated the headlines and Padraig Harrington won his second straight Open, Stricker rose eight places up the leader board Sunday to tie for seventh place with eight other golfers.
Stricker shot a three-over-par 73 in 30 mph-plus winds in his final round at Royal Birkdale. He finished at 12-over-292, nine strokes behind Harrington.
Norman, the third-round leader, ended up in a tie for third as he tried to become the oldest golfer ever to win a major. Norman is 53.
Stricker, meanwhile, moved up two places to ninth in the Ryder Cup standings. He would make the U.S. team if the event were held today.
