A jury from Douglas County will hear the trial of a Ladysmith man accused of being a hit-man for his brother in the slaying of a college student.
Rusk County Circuit Judge Fredrick Henderson approved a change of venue yesterday in the case Harry John Rogers, 55.
The trial began in Ladysmith earlier this month. It was halted after the judge noted that all the jurors who were selected knew something about the case.
It raised questions of whether Rogers could get a fair trial.
The trial has been reset for December.
Jurors will be picked in Superior Dec. 4-5.
About a week of testimony will begin in Ladysmith on Dec. 8.
Rogers is accused of shooting 27-year-old Robert Pfeil Jr., 27, to death outside the victim’s rural Ladysmith home in 1979.
The late Rusk County District Attorney Robert Rogers allegedly asked his brothers to kill Pfeil.
The DA apparently assumed Pfeil wanted to kill him, after he ordered sheriff’s deputies to kill some of Pfeil’s dogs.
