The St. Croix Valley Community Foundation announced Sept. 2 that $30,000 in grants will be available to enhance music education in the region’s public and private schools.
Each year the Foundation awards grants to enhance the music education experience for K-12 students in the St. Croix Valley -- Washington and Chisago counties in Minnesota and Pierce, Polk and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin.
An anonymous donor with a love for music created the Music Education Fund at the Foundation, a fund that will benefit many young people for years to come.
Following the donor’s wishes, the Foundation will fund proposals that supplement, but do not replace, a school’s music budget. Equal weight will be given to all grades from kindergarten through high school.
A committee of reviewers will evaluate the proposals considering their potential impact on students, innovation and creativity, budget clarity and potential long-range benefits. Applicants may apply for materials such as sheet music and instruments; guest artists and instructors; community outreach performances and inter-school cooperative programs.
The committee will consider other ideas as well. Funds are not available for scholarships, uniforms or staff salaries.
Most grants will fall in a range of $500 to $5,000. Proposals are due Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.
To apply call the Foundation at 715-386-9490 or go online at http://www.scvcf.org/grant_guidelines_music_education.htm for grant guidelines and application form.
