Sheboygan’s Kohler Co., laid off 50 people for good Tuesday, blaming the weak economy.
Kohler is known worldwide for its bathroom and kitchen products.
Spokesman Todd Weber said the housing slump resulted in 38 administrators and 12 production workers losing their jobs.
Union president Pete Behrensprung said his group knew the layoffs were in the works but they were not made official until the day they took effect.
Behrensprung says it’s Kohler’s largest job cut since 160 permanent workers and 30 temporary employees were let go in July of last year.
Kohler is the state’s fourth-largest privately-held company. It employs about 7,500 people in Sheboygan County.
