A Supermarket of Veterans Benefits for Veterans is underway in New Richmond.
The event at the National Guard Armory, 1245 Wall Street, New Richmond, runs from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 25.
Organizers hope several hundred western Wisconsin veterans will attend the event and have their questions answered.
Andrew Schuster, retired brigadier general, U.S. Army, and public affairs director for the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, said the New Richmond gathering brings together about 40 different vendors who are ready to answer questions and meet veterans' needs.
He said the local gathering is the 34th such "Supermarket" event held in the state since 2000. The goal is to make veterans aware of all they qualify for in terms of benefits, awards and more.
At this free, “one stop shop” for benefits, veterans can establish eligibility for state veterans benefits, apply for state and federal benefits, receive information about loans, education benefits and employment opportunities, get assistance in obtaining military medals and records, and much more.
A concession stand will be available. Call St. Croix Veterans service officer at 715-386-4759 or visit www.wisvets.com.
