Number of students in 4K grows across state

The number of 4-year-old kindergarteners in Wisconsin grew by 22 percent this fall.
Almost 34,000 youngsters are enrolled in 4-year-old kindergarten programs statewide.
That’s about 6,000 more than a year ago.
Thirty-seven school districts are offering the program for the first time. That brings the total to 319.
State superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster credits the growth to state grants which help local schools cover their costs of 4-year-old kindergarten.
