A man who escaped from a sheriff’s van in Green Bay has been captured in Puerto Rico.
The FBI says Gabiel Bonilla, 27, is in a jail in San Juan, waiting to be extradited back to Wisconsin.
He was convicted last September on charges of disorderly conduct and recklessly using a dangerous weapon. And while riding to jail to await his sentence, Brown County officials said Bonilla kicked out the back window of their transport van and ran off.
Four other prisoners were in the van at the time, but only Bonilla was able to wiggle out of his belly-chain restraints.
The FBI said he was arrested without incident. He’s now charged with traveling in interstate commerce to avoid prosecution and officials say it’s not the first time.
Bonilla was also convicted of a felony escape in Dodge County in 2006.
