Kenseth qualified 30th Thursday. And Paul Menard of Eau Claire will start 31st in the field of 43.
Kenseth went 185.605 miles per hour in a lap around the 1.5 mile track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Menard’s speed was 185.592. Ryan Newman won the pole at 188.475. It was his first pole since last April.
Kyle Busch will start second, and Jeff Gordon third.
