The pilot and co-pilot of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 joked about their experience, expressed amazement at the public’s adoration, and couldn’t wait to fly together again.

Sully Sullenberger and Jeff Skiles spoke for more than an hour Thursday at the EAA AirVenture Show in Oshkosh.

A packed house heard them joke about their five-minute flight in which geese got stuck in their engines.

It ended with an emergency landing in New York’s Hudson River and the rescues of 155 passengers, all of whom escaped without a scratch.

Skiles, who lives in Oregon south of Madison, has spent most of the week at the EAA show and has done that for years.

This was Sullenberger’s first visit. Skiles went back to work a few months after the flight.

He says he’ll be proud to fly with Sullenberger once he returns in September, and when Sullenberger retires, Skiles says he hopes to be the co-pilot.
