A Hatfield man pleaded guilty Tuesday to killing ex-wife before he told police she was missing, and he allowed hundreds to spend a week searching for her.
Douglas Sidie, 39, was convicted in Jackson County of first-degree intentional homicide.
Ten other charges of hiding a corpse and numerous counts of obstructing officers were dropped in a plea bargain.
Defense lawyer John Brinckman said Sidie’s credibility was lost when he lied to police about his wife being missing and he could have gotten a much tougher sentence had a jury convicted him on all 11 counts.
Sidie will still get a life prison term but he can have a chance at a supervised release in as little as 20 years.
And Brinckman says he’ll seek that 20-year time period when Sidie is sentenced. No date was immediately set for that.
Sidie admitted shooting his ex-wife Alisha last Nov. 7 at a home they shared with their twin two-year-old sons.
He then hid Alisha’s body in a nearby wooded area and he led officers to the body eight days after the killing.
