He dropped one place in the season point standings after taking 10th over the weekend at the Sharpie 500 in Bristol, Tenn.
With two races before the Chase, Kenseth has 2,945 points, just 34 ahead of 13th-place Kyle Busch.
Kenseth's finish at Bristol was his ninth Top 10 showing of the year.
Paul Menard of Eau Claire remains 32nd for the year, after placing 24th at Bristol.
Wausau native Scott Wimmer took 29th in his first Sprint Cup race of the season. That's good for 58th place in the point totals.
Meanwhile, Wimmer remains the state's top driver in the Nationwide Series. He fell one place in the standings to 18th, after taking 21st in Friday night's Ford City 250 at Bristol.
Kenseth took fifth in that race, and he jumped six spots to 24th in NASCAR's No. 2 circuit.
Menard rose two places to 30th, after taking ninth on Friday night.
