Two Wisconsin National Guard units have been put on alert for a possible trip to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Guard officials say the 732nd Combat Support Battalion of Tomah is on alert as well as the 951st Engineering Co., from Rhinelander and Tomahawk.

The engineering unit spent 14 months helping to rebuild infrastructure early in the war. The Tomah unit has not been sent overseas yet.

Together, they have about 200 soldiers. If they’re mobilized, they would spend about a year in the war on terror.

The Wisconsin guard currently has about 500 members on active duty.
