Bucks fans boo Kohl, GM gets fired

Milwaukee Bucks’ owner Herb Kohl says he’ll probably look outside the organization for a new general manager.

That’s after Larry Harris who was with the Bucks since 1990 was fired Wednesday after almost five years as general manager was in the final year of his contract.

Kohl said Harris asked for an early determination on whether he’ll be retained.

Kohl said he thought the Bucks had the talent to win this year after Harris retooled the roster and brought in Chinese sensation Yi Jianlian.

Instead, they’re 23-43.

Kohl said winning was a matter of urgency and while he didn’t mention any names, Indiana Pacers’ President Donnie Walsh and former NBA coach Doug Collins are said to be in the mix.

The firing came a day after Kohl was booed in a halftime ceremony during the Bucks’ home loss to Miami.

Harris’ tenure included two coaching changes and an overall record of 162-233.

The Bucks made the playoffs twice in that time span, but never got past the first round.

Kohl again denied long-time accusations of meddling, but he did veto a trade with the New York Knicks for Zach Randolph last month due to character issues.

Meanwhile, Kohl reiterated he won’t sell the Bucks unless it’s to someone who keeps the team in Milwaukee.

A new owner would have to come up with a way to get the Bucks into a new arena. Kohl called the revenue streams at the 20-year-old Bradley Center inadequate.
