Former Hudson resident Ryan Block has been named the field manager for Hudson American Legion baseball for the 2008 season.
Block graduated from Cretin-Derham Hall high school in 1999, where he played hockey and baseball. Block was part of the historic Cretin high school baseball team that won 66 games in a row, the second-longest streak in high school history.
Block was a member of Cretin’s varsity team in his junior and senior years, and was a teammate of Minnesota Twins’ catcher Joe Mauer. In the summer, he played Legion baseball for the Hudson team, where he set several team offensive and defensive records.
Block went on to play baseball for three years at Loras College, graduating early in 2002. While employed in New York he was an assistant baseball coach at a local high school.
“We are very fortunate to have Ryan come back home and take over the reins for Hudson Legion Baseball,” said Bill Denzer, Legion general manager. “Ryan Block was one of the best catchers ever to come out of Hudson youth baseball programs. He brings a wealth of baseball knowledge to the table, and all of Hudson baseball will be better for it.”
Block is employed by Target Corp. and currently lives in Hopkins, Minn.
