The St. Croix Rowing Club will offer a Learn to Row program as part of 2008 membership in the club.
The group will be able to accommodate eight new adult members, who need to be competent swimmers. Interested rowers should contact Mary Prindiville at (715) 531-1634 for additional information. Checks must be received no later than May 15.
The $250 season membership includes 10 hours of instruction in Learn to Row. The program begins Thursday, May 15, with a land session from 5:30-8 p.m. and concludes Saturday, June 7, with a session on the water in conjunction with National Learn to Row Day.
In addition, rowers will choose two on-water sessions from five additional weekday dates: May 28, May 20, June 2 and June 4 from 5:30-8 p.m.; and Saturday, May 31, from 6:30-9 a.m. Community members will be invited for snacks and beverages following the final lesson to promote the club and the sport of rowing.
The St. Croix Rowing Club is a non-profit organization with a mission of spreading information on rowing and educating others about the sport, while serving as good stewards of the National Scenic Riverway. Currently, it carries about 20 members and is limited by space and finances in the number of those it can serve.
For summer 2008, it has a fleet of two training singles, two doubles and two quads that accommodate rowers under 200 pounds. The club also owns one racing single and supports participation in area regattas, as well as recreational rowing.
The group is planning a Sunday morning Show To Row program, with the date to be announced, for all new and continuing members to get on the St. Croix River together.
