There are so many positives about purchasing the NMC building on First Street as a future site for the Hudson Area Joint Library. It’s an attractive building in a central location: a perfect community gathering place to enhance Hudson’s beautiful riverfront.
It’s economical: Estimates are that the cost of buying and remodeling the building would be $2.5 million less than purchasing land and building a new library. Purchasing and remodeling the NMC building is estimated to increase taxes $24 per $100,000 of assessed property valuation for residents of municipalities operating the library (less for the town of Troy).
It’s a great opportunity for public and private cooperation: The Hudson Area Library Foundation plans to raise half the money needed through private sources.
If you live in the village of North Hudson, the city of Hudson or the towns of Hudson, St. Joseph or Troy, please seize this opportunity to enrich our community by voting yes for the library referendum on April 1.
