Director Beth Reidenbach is looking for 14 to 20 young adults who must be at least 16 years old; one adult female and one adult male. All roles include singing and dancing.
Actors auditioning will be asked to read from the script, learn a dance routine and sing. Actors may bring a prepared song or sing one of the familiar songs from the show. Those auditioning should wear comfortable clothes and shoes to allow for maximum movement. Scripts and song sheets will be available 30-minutes prior to auditions.
“Grease” features Rydell High School’s spirited class of ’59. Hip Danny Z. is in love with wholesome Sandy D., while gum chewing, hubcap-stealing, hot-rod loving boys pursue wise-cracking girls in pink poodle skirts, teased curls and bobby socks.
They sing and dance their way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace and the drive-in movie. Hits such as “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” and “Born to Hand-Jive” recall the Buddy Holly hiccups, the Little Richard yodels, the Elvis Presley wiggles, the yakety-yaks and the sha-na-nas of the ’50s.
Rehearsals begin the week of May 18. Nine performances are scheduled July 11-Aug. 3 on Fridays and Saturdays (not July 19) at 8 p.m. and Sundays, July 20 and Aug. 3, at 2:30 p.m. on the main stage.
Reidenbach last staged “Grease” at The Phipps in 2001. Music director Ruth Ashwood and choreographer Melissa Huber most recently collaborated on “Seussical” at The Phipps.
